The Creatures Among Us Collection celebrates the quirky imagination of childhood art. Each original one-of-a-kind portrait provides a glimpse into the characters’ personalities and hints about the world of their human companions.
I remember when having a box of 64 crayons made me feel incredibly rich. The creatures I drew had huge bodies with spaghetti arms and far too many eyes and legs. My mother smiled as she put the quirky art on the fridge door.
I now create with once-loved secondhand jewelry instead of crayons. Pieces come from friends, rummage sales and street markets throughout Mexico. Broken chains, single earrings and neglected pendants find new purpose. Vibrant colors delight while fun shapes entertain my hands. As I make art with these materials, I feel rich in small treasures.
I am a mixed-media artist, photographer, and designer. Several years ago, I reduced my possessions to two suitcases and became an international nomad. One suitcase has art supplies. The second carries everything else worth carrying.
My artworks are playful and charming because the process of creating them is slow and intentional. Each character receives dozens of revisions as jewelry pieces audition to become part of the final version. A title for the artwork is carefully selected and the finished Creature is welcomed into the Family.

Pieces are carefully cleaned and refurbished. The colors, shapes and textures are studied to unlock their full potential.
The Creature's personality slowly emerges as hundreds of jewelry pieces audition to be included in the final version.
